One of our favorite places to visit in the summer is Storm King Art Center in New Windsor, NY. The outdoor-only experience features incredible, often enormous, and sometimes gravity-defying sculptures and art installations.
We decided to bundle up and check it out in this late fall/early winter season. It was just as moving, and maybe even more so with the cold, winter landscape. We packed a picnic, safely met up with some friends, and walked for hours.

The kids did a bit more than walk. They ran, rolled down hills, and pretty much frolicked. That’s what happens when art and the outdoors mix. Some of the adults may have been inspired to frolic as well.

Storm King closes in mid-December, but there are other outdoor art experiences to be found in winter. We also enjoy Grounds for Sculpture and these outdoor museums may inspire us to create some art of our own in our yard this winter.
