Spark light with a lantern walk

A family lantern walk to welcome winter

We have a new favorite tradition in November. Last week we headed out to the annual Lantern Walk at Raritan Headwaters Association in Far Hills, New Jersey. It looked a little different this year with face masks and social distancing, but the magic of holding lanterns and walking through the darkening woods was the same.

The children sang a song and there were poetry stops along the way with forest “fairies.” It was a welcome reminder that in winter, we can bring light to the darkest of days and find comfort simply walking together.

Whether you join an organized lantern walk or create your own with your family, it’s a way to embrace winter’s arrival and welcome the season of reflection and staying close together.
